HEALTH CARE

YTHS (The Finnish Student Health Service) maintains a health centre in every university town and provides health and dental care for students enrolled at universities and other institutions of higher education. All students enrolled at the University are entitled to use the services of the YTHS, provided that they have paid the health care contribution in connection with the Student Union membership fee. YTHS services are either free of charge or reasonably priced. The health centre is open on weekdays during term time. If a student becomes acutely ill and needs immediate attention and the Student Health Centre is not open, he/she can contact one of the local communal health centres for an appointment.
Citizens of the EU and EEA (European Economic Area) countries are covered by the National Health Insurance plan administered by KELA (The Social Insurance Institution). If their stay in Finland is less than one year, they must have the E111 form from their local social security office before arriving in Finland in order to be covered by the plan. If the stay lasts more than a year, the student must get the E106 or E109 form (for those under 25 years) from the local social security office before arriving in Finland. This form must always be taken to a local KELA office after arriving in Finland.
