Multimedia Authoring Systems

(15 credits)



The course will introduce students to the key issues of multimedia and provide them with experience in design and production. The language of instruction will be English.

The students are expected to have a basic knowledge of the use of PC and Macintosh computers, practical skills in text processing and graphics software (e.g. MacDraw, CorelDraw, Aldus Free hand) and the ability to use computer networks. Extensive knowledge ofinformation technology or in communication studies is not required.

For students studying computer science the course is suitable as a specialization course in the design and analysis of interactive multimedia systems. For the students of communication studies or linguistics the course gives an opportunity to specialize in the new media and thus offers the prerequisities for future communication profes sions. The students of other disciplines are encouraged to participate. The main goal is that the students learn how to produce multimedia applications in their own areas of specialization.

    Fee: FIM 5000.

    Free of charge for exchange students at the University of Vaasa (ERASMUS, NORDPLUS, bilateral exchange agreements) and at the Vaasa Institute of Technology.
