NATIONAL AGREEMENTS
Besides international student exchange agreements, the University of Vaasa has also signed agreements with the local university establishments, as well as with the Vaasa Institute of Technology and with the Helsinki University of Technology.
The cooperation agreements with ‰bo Akademi University and the Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration in Vaasa affirm that a student in any of these co-operating establishments has the right to attend individual courses at any of the other co-operating establishments in the city. Such students participate in the regular teaching of the host university and the credit units earned there will be recognized in their own university. However, students must first confirm with their own university which credits are recognized as compensating or complementing studies on each programme. This right to study at any of the co-operatinguniversities also applies to exchange students.
The cooperation agreement signed with the Vaasa Institute of Technology mainly concerns students on the technical degree programme. The agreement covers both teaching arrangements and the common use of laboratory and other facilities.
The degree programme for the Master of Science in Technology degree is arranged jointly by the University of Vaasa and the Helsinki University of Technology. Students studying for the degree earn approximately 80credit units in Vaasa and then transfer to the Helsinki University of Technology in order to complete their studies. The agreement also enables other students not on the technical degree programme to study for about 40 credit units in Helsinki.
Since 1983 the Finnish and Swedish universities and colleges on both sides of the Kvarken Straits have been evolving a network to advance cooperation with regard to higher education, research and continuing education. Furthermore, the University of Vaasa in Finland and Ume University in Sweden have expanded their offers. A new study programme called ¥School for Scandinavian Studies¥ enables students to experience two cultures within one term or more. The new study programme will start in September 1996, and it offers studies in Economics and Business Administration, Nordic Society and Culture, and Scandinavian Languages.
