GENERAL
In 1966 the Finnish Government passed a resolution establishing a School of Economics and Business Administration in Vaasa. The School admitted its first students in 1968 and was initially a private verinstitution, becoming a state institution in 1977. New degree programmes were introduced in 1980 and the School was renamed the Unisity of Vaasa.The number of students enrolled at the University is about 3,000 including both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The permanent staff numbers about 300, of whom half belong to the teaching staff.
The students used to study directly for a Master¥s degree, but nowadays the University of Vaasa also grants intermediate Bachelor¥s degrees. The degrees of Bachelor and Master of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor and Master of Arts, and Bachelor and Master of Administrative Sciences are conferred by the University of Vaasa.
With full-time study the Master¼s degree can be completed in 1Ư1/2‚2 years after the Bachelor¥s degree (3 years). In the last year the students usually concentrate on advanced studies and writing their thesis. Postgraduate programmes up to the level of doctorates are also offered in all fields of study.
