The University Library contains material pertaining to all the University¥s fields of teaching and research. The collections comprise over 100 000 volumes, and the Library subscribes to nearly 900 periodicals. The Library is open to the public, although it is mostly used by students and researchers. In accordance with Scandinavian custom, the books are displayed on open shelves, which makes it possible to survey what is available.
The University Library is one of five Finnish libraries connected to an work. The Library was designated a European Documentation Centre by the Commission of the European Communities in 1984. The library recives the full range of the official publications of the EU: legislation,proposed legislation, reports, statistics, periodicals, bibliographicpublications etc. The European Documentation Centre supports teaching and research concerned with the European Union as well as giving access to EU information to all those who are interested in European integration.
