ACCOMMODATIONDuring the course (1-25 August) you will live in the VOAS, The Vaasa Student Housing Foundation, apartment in the Palosaari area. Usually two to three students rent a shared flat. They share the kitchen and bathroom (shower), but each have their own room. Your roommate can be someone from the same course or he / she can be a Finnish student. VOAS apartments are located in walking / bicycling distance from the University and from the centre of Vaasa (c. 2,5 kilometer). The bus connections are very good. Student flats are furnished, with a bed, a desk, a cupboard, a reading lamp and chairs in the rooms, but there are no bed linen, blankets or pillows. It is recommended that you bring along a sleeping bag or bed linen. The residential costs you will pay by yourself. The rent per month is c. 240 euros and it has to be paid in the beginning of your stay in Vaasa. You has to pay the deposit too. The deposit is c. 170 euros depending on the size of the apartment. The deposit is refunded to the resident within to months after the end of his/her lease period if resident does not owe any rentals to VOAS and the apartment is left in a good condition to the next resident. You can rent kitchen utensils "survival kits" from the Student Union. A "Survival kit" includes plates, glasses, cutlery, knife and one pot and pan. But be prepared also that there are not enough "survival kits" for everyone. You have to clean up your room (+ kitchen and bedroom) by yourself. There are laundry facilities in the recidences. Of course there is an opportunity to go to Finnish sauna too! The restaurant "Otto ja minä" is situated next to the apartments. In the "Otto ja minä" there is a gym and a food kiosk which is also open on weekends. |
