PROJECT: CONTRASTIVE LINGUISTICS AND TRANSLATION SCIENCE

Aims of the project

  • The contrastive study of Finnish and other languages (especially Swedish) at all levels of language
  • The study of translation theory and practice especially from four linguistic?pragmatic perspectives (grammatical structure, language variation, semantics, pragmatics)

Teaching


In both sectors of the project there is continued interaction between teaching and research. This is seen especially in the implementation of the following courses:

Postgraduate studies

Seminars etc.:

  • The annual VAKKI seminar at Vöyri in April (jointly with the other Departments of the Faculty of Humanities)
  • The annual Translation Research Seminar in Oulu in December (jointly with the Departments of French, German and the Nordic Languages of the University of Oulu)
  • Postgraduate Seminar during the academic year

 Work in progress includes the following doctoral and licentiate theses:

  • Ralf Vahtera: Käänteisupotus suomen ja ruotsin kielessä (doctoral thesis).
  • Britta Klockars: Aleksis Kiven Sydämeni laulu -runo ja sen käännettävyys (licentiate thesis).
  • Giancarla Pisani: Les nouvelles de Maria Jotuni en français: Problèmes de traduction (licentiate thesis).
  • Annica Törmä: Simultaanitulkkaus. Tulkin, toimeksiantajan ja käyttäjän yhteistyö (licentiate thesis).
  • Taina Vanharanta: Elvi Sinervo - kääntäjän elämäkerta (licentiate thesis).
