Thanks to the very clear station signs
we never had problems in finding
our station - even though at that time
we were analphabets in Japanese.
Actually, during the four weeks I learned
hiragana from the railway station signs
and even today my hiragana handwriting
bears a resemblence to the JR style.
From Shiokawa we took a day trip by train
to the Bandai mountain area, where
we found the Lake Inawashiro,
a popular holiday destination for
the Japanese. There is a lively holiday village with
swan boats and everything.
In the town of Inawashiro we saw
these nice sewer locks with local
themes. Also elsewhere in Japan I
have noticed the same custom.
Another lock.
And the clumsy photographer again!
