Japan: Kitakata

Kitakata boasts to be the ramen capital of Japan and they have a lot of ramen shops. Another interesting feature are the old warehouses, called kura. We cycled to Kitakata from our base in Shiokawa some 10 km away. It was the last day of the rainy season and a loud thunderstorm surprised us. A friendly shop-keeper invited us for a cup of tea together with some domestic tourists. There we sat around an antique heater and sipped green tea and tried to find some way to communicate and small talk. It was cosy. When the worst rain was over we headed for the Sake factory our host Yamaguchi-san had recommended us.
