My most common reply to our own international students' emailed questions
Dear Student,
You are most welcome to my reception, preferably personally. But, if
need be, you can also call me by the phone at my reception time.
You'll find the information on my office
hours
(student reception) on my home page. During the university vacation
periods and in the summer (June-August) I am not available.
You are most welcome to send me email about your business as a
background for contacting me in person. Please do not use without my
consent attachments in your email and avoid sending messages in the
HTML format. I am storing your message for a reasonable span of time
so that we can look at it in more detail when you contact me in
person.
All the best, Timo
Please always configure your email system so that it always shows
your name, not just your email address. Also observe that the email
statutes of the university state that no other than the allotted
student uwasa-email address should be used in any studying related
matters.
My most common reply to outside international students' emailed questions or applications
Dear Student / Applicant,
Thank you for your email. Probably because of my net activities and
WWW pages I often get study application pleas and requests for
individual research advice from students all over the world. As a
general rule it is impossible for me to take the time to respond in
a personal fashion. Therefore, I have set up this common response.
- If you have contacted me to submit an application to come and
study at the University of Vaasa, Finland, you have not contacted
the appropriate quarters. Dealing with application situations is
not part of my tasks. Proceed as follows. Carefully read our
university's page
on admissions. For general information on studying in Finland
see "Discover Finland on the
web".
- If you have contacted me to ask for general research
counseling, that is foremost the task of your own university's
professors. However,
- You'll find a fair amount of my general lecture and advice
material through my Accounting and
Finance Course Syllabuses Page
also in English.
- You'll find a list of my scientific publications, some of
them available in full text, including the references, at my
scientific publications page .
- If you wish to ask me about relevant references for your
research, that is what library searches are for. You may find
useful my page of Journals
in Accounting, Finance and OR for Research .
- If you wish to ask questions about accounting rules,
practices or theories in Finland please instead see my web page
"About
Finnish Accounting in English ".
- If you are asking me to send you paper copies of research
materials, sorry no. I do not provide such a service. Please
rather contact your local library. However, as already pointed
out, a considerable part my publications are freely available in
fulltext on the
net .
- If you have specific (and sensible) questions about some of
my publications, without any promises I'll consider a response.
But if it is general tutoring that you are factually asking for,
you'll indeed have to approach your own professors.
- If you have for some reason contacted me to ask for outside
computer programming help or advice, please see my generic
programming-help pointers .
Application queries through the "Page Specific Feedback"
Questions or requests concerning application procedures that have
been sent through the University's web-page feedback system are
not welcome.
Such abuse means that the sender has failed our elementary test of
comprehending English in writing. If you have questions about
studying or applying, you should have directly contacted our
International Office (information(ät)uwasa.fi).
My response to hiring enquiries
Dear Sender of the enquiry,
Neither the university's, faculty's nor the department's hiring are
part of my tasks. Please, kindly refrain from contacting me with or
about hiring applications. As a starting point you could try to see
e.g. the Contact
Information page of our university's International Office for
enquiring further information.
